On the occasion of Paradiso’s 50th anniversary, the venue has joined forces with VRBASE, an Amsterdam-based breeding ground for virtual and augmented reality, to organize a content jam. Over two days, multiple teams will compete in a contest to create and prototype new content. Companies, startups and freelancers are invited to submit their entries; the best will be selected to participate and be a part of the resulting augmented reality experience, which will be realized in 2018.
50 years of Paradiso
In 2018, Paradiso Amsterdam will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The Cosmisch Ontspanningscentrum Paradiso (‘Cosmic Relaxation Center Paradiso’), situated in a former church building, opened its doors on March 30th 1968, with the objective to create a free space for creative talent to flourish. Since its inception, the venue located on the Weteringschans has attracted a vast array of artists and a wide audience from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world. Over the course of the past 50 years, Paradiso has become an amalgamation of a music venue with a nightclub and a cultural center. About 1200 shows are hosted by Paradiso every year, most of which are concerts. Almost all great music artists have performed at Paradiso at some point in their careers.
Content jam open call
Paradiso is known among artists and audiences for its unique atmosphere. The former church building’s distinctive magnetism makes the venue legendary, and it’s that exceptional atmosphere together with the artist or show that makes for an unparalleled concert experience. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Paradiso has asked VRBASE to help produce an augmented reality experience. To kick off this project, Paradiso and VRBASE are looking for augmented reality (AR) concepts to express Paradiso’s unique atmosphere and character, and the unrivalled synergy between the building and the performing artist or show.
Experienced AR teams, startups or individuals from all over the world are invited to respond to the open call for proposals. The deadline for entries is Monday April 10th 2017. The best entries will be selected to participate in the content jam, which will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of April 2017. Entries will be judged by a jury consisting of Mark Minkman (Paradiso), Daan Kip (founder of VRBASE) and Kim Tuin (director of Stichting NDSM-werf). Contestants have the chance of participating in the project and being a part of the festivities organized on the occasion of Paradiso’s 50th anniversary in 2018.
